A man was killed early Thursday morning while getting into his car on Collins Avenue at 39th Street in Miami Beach.

A Mercedes SUV was traveling Northbound on Collins Avenue around 1:30 a.m.  when police say the driver hit a man who was getting into his car.

That man was killed instantly.

The driver of the Mercedes did stop and is being questioned by police.  He has not been arrested.

A light pole was also knocked down.

No traffic will be allowed through the area until about 10 a.m.

All northbound lanes on Collins Avenue between 38 Street & 40th Street are closed.

 All traffic is being diverted onto Indian Creek Drive at 38 Street.

 Alternate north routes are Pinetree Drive at 23 Street as well as Alton Road.
